Royal Challengers Bangalore aced Pune Warriors India by 35 runs with an all-round show in DLF IPL 2012. Chris Gayle’s merciless assault (57 off 31, 3×4, 6×6) stands set the tone for Dilshan Tillekeratne to deal in fierce cuts as the visitors piled up 173.

RCB bowling aces then took over, Zaheer Khan’s swing (2-21), Vinay Kumar’s pace (3-32), Muthiah Muralitharan’s guile (2-16) pushed the home team over the brink, ending with 138 for nine.

Twins strikes by Zaheer put the brakes on PWI before the chase got off the block. Manish Pandey lost his offstump to a beauty.

Vinay chipped in with Clarke’s wicket, digging one short for the Aussie to wade in as expected. Tiwary on the mid-wicket fence kept track off the ball and pouched the catch. Muralitharan’s act was next in the drama being played out at the wicket, cashing in on Uthappa’s reckless streak for a stumping.

Majumdar’s heroic act ended in Zaheer’s hands at cover, a dive forwardto make up for late reaction followed by a tumble.

Earlier Bhuvanesh Kumar brought out the quiet menace in Gayle. PWI’s most effective bowler so far in IPL5 found four balls soaring high over his head into the stands as RCB’s destroyer connected with straight hits, four sixes in the sixth over thrilling fans, fielders looked on helplessly.
