Magnificent Rahane new sensation of IPL
Rahane, and debutant West Indian Kooper of Rajasthan Royals shine in a dream match against Kings XI Punjab.
Career best Twenty20 score from India batsman Ajinkya Rahane and Trinidad and Tobago medium-pace bowling allrounder Kevon Cooper scripted a 31-run victory for Rajasthan Royals over Kings XI Punjab in front of a vocal home crowd at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Relying on placement and precision, inspired by legend Dravid, Rahane (98 off 68 balls) paved the way for Rajasthan’s match-winning total of 191 for 4 while forming partnerships of 77 with Rahul Dravid (28) and 75 with Brad Hodge (21). In reply, a sloppy Punjab could only muster 160 for 9 as they slumped to their fifth consecutive defeat in IPL tournament openers, with Cooper marking his IPL debut with 4 for 25.
“Expectation is key word in international cricket. Even if you are a new player, you are expected to perform well. I love challenges. Tough situations take best out of me. I get more focussed while facing tough situations. I have been working harder than before to plug all the loopholes which may have been in my batting. Everybody knows how important IPL is now-a-days. I will try to do the same as I have been doing in domestic matches. I don’t take any match lightly…be it club level, domestic or international,” Rahane said before IPL began and proved in his IPL opener.
The way he was guiding the ball to boundaries with little efforts reminded of Dravid’s superb placement selection and “The Wall” attribute.
Way to go Rahane. Wishing you a great IPL season.
