It was one of those rare matches where even after Chris Gayle scored above 80 runs, the Royal Challengers Bangalore ended up on the losing side. Gayle fired 86 runs from 58 balls, most of which was scored when Bangalore were out of the contest.

For Kolkata Knight Riders, skipper Gautam Gambhir came on to open the innings and single-handedly demolished the Bangalore bowling attack. KKR looked like a superior side in all formats of the game as Bangalore could not hold onto the chances that came their way. Gambhir was dropped twice in the third over bowled by Zaheer Khan as he went on to play a match-winning innings.

Gautam scored his shots all over the wicket and he got good support from Brendron McCullum (43) as both of them went on to add 95 runs for the first wicket. Kallis who came into the bat at number three took his time but towards the end he smashed some big blows that helped KKR reach a huge total of 190 runs. While Gambhir contributed with 93 runs from just 51 balls, Kallis too was very impressive in his 27-ball 41.

Bangalore had a disastrous start as they lost Dilshan in the first over bowler by Yusuf Pathan. Gayle and Kohli added 32 runs for the second wicket before Kohli was trapped before the wicket by Jacques Kallis. AB de Villiers perished next ball for a golden duck adding to the woes of Bangalore dugout. Gayle who was going for run-a ball changed gear towards the end, but it was too late as Bangalore required an impossible run-rate of 24 runs per over.
