Delhi Devils thrash Kolkata Riders in their opening match

Irafan no by his bowling but by his batting proved decisive, smashing an unbeaten 42 from 20 deliveries to ensure Delhi Daredevils did not make a mess of their chase of 98 in a 12 overs game after having been 49 for 0. It would have been embarrassing for Daredevils to lose after that opening partnership, and especially after they had reduced Kolkata Knight Riders to 55 for 6 at one stage.

Irfan Pathan scored a brisk unbeaten 42 to guide Delhi Daredevils to a comfortable eight-wicket win over hosts Kolkata Knight Riders in a rain-curtailed 12-overs-a-side IPL 5 match on 5th April.

Irfan struck three sixes and two boundaries to help Delhi reach 100 with five balls to spare and make a winning start to their IPL 5 campaign.

Earlier, Aaron Finch and Virender Sehwag had gone serenely after the target. But the asking-rate suddenly rose above ten runs an over after both were dismissed in successive overs, and it was left to Irfan to bail Daredevils out.

Morne Morkel scalped three wickets 3 for 18 runs, while Umesh Yadav and Roelof van der Merwe bagged two wickets apiece to restrict the Knight Riders to 97 for nine after they were put into bat following a two-and-half hours rain delay.
