A marginal victory of Kings XI over Knight Riders
In a thrilling match played on 15th Apr 2012 in Eden Gardens, Kings XI Punjab thumped a 2 run victory over the host Kolkata Knight Riders.
After winning the toss, KKR decided to field first and their bowlers proved the captain’s decision right by restricting Punjab for a small total of 134 runs with Sunil Narine taking 5 wickets in his 4 overs. The target looked achievable and with KKR’s batting lineup they were the favorites. But some exquisite bowling performances by Piyush Chawla, Praveen Kumar, Bhatt and Harmeet made the small total look formidable.
Piyush in his 4 over spell sent three key wickets of KKR back to pavilion on a very low score while Praveen and Harmeet didn’t allowed KKR batsmen to free their arm and make runs. At one time KKR were 2 down for 71 runs and were chasing the total comfortably but Chawla provided Punjab the much needed breakthrough and from that movement the flood gates were flung open and at the end KKR players couldn’t make the required runs in 20 overs.
However the man of the match award went to KKR’s Sunil Narine for his splendid spell of 4 overs in which he took 5 wickets and gave away only 19 runs.
